Walking back to work and feeling very washed out in the June haze, I stopped when I saw this clean S2000. Honda built these things for years and I always knew them as the cars that serious-looking guys bought at the local university. They never looked new, they never looked old, and they never looked like I could relate.
This S2000 had all kinds of gravitational pull in
that sunburning heat. A big class of schoolkids broken up into pairs and triples chatting and joking walking up Dekalb were getting distracted by the car when they went past. One kid of every pair would turn his or her head and take in the lines, then get back into the chatter.
I loved the whole scene, and was surprised to be so caught up in a car I’d always dismissed.
